“It is something I must continue to overcome.”
Demi Lovato has spoken out for the first time since she was hospitalised for a suspected drug overdose last month.
Posting on Instagram, the 25-year-old singer wrote: “I have always been transparent about my journey with addiction.
“This illness is not something that… fades with time. It is something I must continue to overcome.”
The singer, who has previously opened up on her mental health struggles, thanked staff at Los Angeles’ Cedars-Sinai hospital and vowed to keep fighting her addictions.
“I now need time to heal and focus on my sobriety and road to recovery”, she confirmed.
“The love you have all shown me will never be forgotten and I look forward to the day where I can say I came out on the other side.
“I will keep fighting.”
Lovato has previously battled drug addictions, bipolar and eating disorders.
She was hospitalised on July 26 after an alleged overdose at her Hollywood home.

“Demi is awake and with her family who want to express thanks to everyone for the love, prayers and support,” a statement from her family confirmed at the time.
“Some of the information being reported is incorrect and they respectfully ask for privacy.”
In June, Lovato released a song called ‘Sober’ in which she detailed her battle with substance abuse and how she had recently relapsed after six years of sobriety.
“To the ones who never left me / We’ve been down this road before / I’m so sorry, I’m not sober anymore,” Lovato sings in the song from her sixth album album, ‘Tell Me You Love Me.’
